In the mid 2000s, book digitization used software called optical recognition software. But back then, that software was only about 80% accurate,. And so the resulting digital books were full of errors and pretty messy. Google had just this one clever idea of what if we incorporated captured technology into digitizing books. It took them surprisingly long to at least implement that.
