If you're hiding something out of fear, then perhaps that could be consdured as a secret versus private. It's not just like, this thing is always private, and so it's ok to keep it to yourself. But it does depend on the situation, on how it affects their life. For some people, that might feel like you kept a secret cause you didn't tell me that you had sex with this person last night.
