The Short Answer and the Long Answer to Color
Spectral energy is basically rainbow power. It's when white light goes through a prism and is split into all the wave lengths that comprise daylight. You can think of a wave length as the ripples you make in a pool of water when you tap it with your finger. Each wave length corresponds to a different color, or shade of color. They're invisible to us until they're broken up in some way, like in a Rainbow.
