Do We Really Need to Rethink the Poverty of Stimulus?

The poverty of the stimulus was first proposed 60 years ago, when there was little knowledge about how kids learn. Now we know that children are very good at picking up on statistical information in input. We're also getting a much better idea of what fairly simple combitational mechanism can do without any kind of building grammars or universal concerns. They can actually acquire aspects of language that would seem comparable to what we can see in children. So I think the poverty of the stimuli is not as pressing as it used to be.
