Introduction
Caffeine is an algaloid that occurs naturally in cacao beans, tea leaves, cola leaves, and dozens of other plants. It serves as a central nervous system stimulant that can boost mood and increase concentration and metabolism. Our bodies absorb caffeine through the small intestine before it's dissolved into the bloodstream; since its water and fat soluble, caffeine can penetrate the blood brain barrier. Because caffeine is the most commonly used drug in the world, concerns about its regulation are emerging.
