COPD Exacerbation - What You Need to Know

There are four main principles of treatment for a COPD exacerbation. They are ventilatory support, inhalers, steroids, and antibiotics. Your treatment during an exacerbation will be different from what the patient will need at home. The 2007 Torch trial demonstrated that inhaled corticosteroids helped decrease the rate of exacerbations but comes with an increased risk of pneumonia.
