Is the Main Character of Serenity a Libertarian?
Mal is a libertarian on the surface, but deep down he knows there's something wrong. The Alliance wants River in particular because they run some scientific experiments on her to make her into a... We don't really know what, but they've given her superpowers of some kind. So why not just drop them off on some planet somewhere and then be rid of them? At the beginning, like I said, he's ready to do it. As the show progresses, the more opportunity he has, the less willing he is to doing it.
