There are different ways of reading the bible legitimately. If you're reading it more to commune with god directly, which is how the church has typically read the bible for two thousand years. The western conservative protestant movement, which we call evangelicalism and fundamentalism, the whole idea of the bible is tied very much to history or science. And so when people want to re engage the bible, sometimes they can be paralyzed by do i it'si almost feel irresponsible for me to read the bible if i'm not a bible scholar?
