After the brutal killing of a french school teacher by an islamic state group sympathizer, president macron proposed a law that would promote republican values. At the time, we brought together a panel on the real story, asking whether president macron was marginalizing french moslems for political game. Key to that discussion was the idea of lasite, a french legal doctrine which protects private religious practice from state interference. But it's also been interpreted to mean public life should be free from overt religious expression, which can often mean a clash with islam.
