Some cells get damaged like classically epithelial cells that get genetically damaged. They take themselves out of commission by going even a step further. In the case of senescent cells, which happens in other lineages like fibroblasts, the cell never divides again but cannot itself ever form a tumor on its own. But if we were to then get rid of that cell, like the immune system does naturally in many cases anyway, who's to say that's a bad thing?
