The Gift of the Spirit
In verse seven, paul describes the manner of the spirit that has been given to timothy. It is a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and self control. Living by this spirit, timothy will find resources that he lacks in his own human flesh. Just as his master, christ was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of god, so timothy can know power even in his weakness and suffering.
