Prisons are becoming more and more overcrowded in Latin America. In brazil, prisons operate around about a hundred and forty four per cent capacity. Often these people haven't yet gone to trial. And because of these conditions, because of their sheer numbers, it's often not possible for guards to be present. So the result that we're seeing is that prisons are increasingly run by gangs - which has really terrible consequences.
Italians have voted decisively for a coalition of right-wing parties, with Giorgia Meloni, leader of the Brothers of Italy, the likely next prime minister.
