In the late forties, early fifties, the normal american family was a man who earned the living and a woman who was to take care of the children. The hard part of that was that her role was in isolation. She was called housekeeper in those days, home maker, housekeeper. He his role was limited to away from the house and away from the children. So fathers never got to know their kids, and mothers were isolated at home. And finally, then, after that, people began realizing that something had to change. Rolls had to be more flexible.
