The Importance of Whistling in Communication

The most famous whistle register that people may have heard of before is Silvogomero, which is spoken in the Canary Islands. People use it for communicating between mountains across valleys where it would be very arduous to just actually walk over to the person you want to talk with. They also show up in Africa, where people need to communicate over very long distances of Savannah or desert. And in the Amazon rainforest and a few other places, again, where there's there's either background noise or an environment that attenuates sound transmission.
