#54 Gary Marcus and Luis Lamb - Neurosymbolic models

Machine Learning Street Talk (MLST)

CHAPTER

Is There a Semantic Cycle in Artificial Intelligence?

All of the intelligent systems which have been created to date are narrow. There's almost no adaptation to novelty. Professor Gary Marcus believes that if we don't do something analogous to this, we won't succeed in our quest for robust intelligence. Lewis Lamb thinks that we can integrate logical reasoning and neural networks. Do you remember Pedro Domingos, he spoke of the six tribes in artificial intelligence? Well it was five tribes - I took the liberty of adding cybernetics as the sixth tribe. All this is born out of a lot of conflict over obtaining powerful symbolic positions by means of formalising information graphically.
