The pledge inverts the usual psychology around generosity. It is an amazing feeling to be giving money to a children's hospital or to a woman's shelter, for it to feel like a guilty pleasure. The only freedom i have is to give more than ten % away, or to give to other things that wouldn't count toward my minimum of 10%. That goes to the most effective charities.
