A delirium is defined as acute brain dysfunction with cardinal features of inattention and acute or fluctuating mental status. Disposing factors for ICU delirium include the following: Younger age, developmental delay, cyanotic heart disease, mechanical ventilation, sedative death and choice amongst other factors. The use of haloperidol or antipsychotics can be noted in critically ill pediatric patients on a case-by-case basis.
