A New Chapter in the Prophecy
The lord had not known any other nation in the way that he had known them. Israel's election was all too often treated as a basis for presumption and complacency. But this statement shows that it must be exactly the opposite. Because israel, alone among the nations, has the lord as their god, with them being his people they must expect to face the severer judgment.
