The Contextual Dimension of Laws

Exodus and Deuteronomy are essentially the same, but explanations for a few of the commands are different. The biggest difference we see is in the fourth commandment keeping the Sabbath. In Exodus, the reason for rest is the memory of they themselves having been slaves in Egypt. See, the focus is more humanitarian in Deuteronomy than it is in Exodus. But these laws look the way they do because they have a contextual dimension that cannot be avoided.
