Aristotle's Greatest Achievement in Medicine

Galen was responsible for the discovery of the recurrent laryngeal nerve, that's the nerve that innovates the voice box. He showed by means of a very careful experiment where you lay open the nerve in the neck and are able to pinch it off. Galen thought quite rightly and very striking about neural transmission. But most importantly he thought that, and this is part of, and part of course of the empirical side of the demonstration of the centrality of the brain. And he could also show simply by dissection what ramifies and ramifies from the nervous system. Gail and Haveray strong views about that.
