Is There a Sustainable Future?
No matter what kind of sustainable future we arrive at, it will entail a reduced standard of living. And I think that the longer that the population increases, the land issue that I mentioned earlier is the key thing that comes back. When you have a population that's growing and people do not have access to land to build houses, etc., or find food prices increasing beyond their means, their standard of living will decrease. Their political involvement is likely to decrease as well. Because they grow less wealthy proportionally, less influential, more concerned with the basics of how you get by.
