The Evolution of the Oxygen Cascade in Mice at High Altitudes

There are some small mammals that are found pretty high, but not nearly as abundant as deer mice. High altitude is so cold, and the animals have to maintain a very high metavalic rate just to keep their bodies warm. That's a really significant source of plasticity for the animals. So we needed a way to actually compare high altitude populations to low altitude populations in a way that controlled for that environmental effect.
