Don't Be Cruel and Hound Dog spent 11 weeks at the top of the charts. Both sides of the record went to number one. Elvis didn't have any say over the material either, although he did like the main ballad that was going to be used in the film. The other three songs were among the most mediocre he'd do in the 50s. By the time the Reno Brothers was finished, it had been renamed Love Me Tender.
