i think it's fair to say this essay is the untimely meditation that deals with gerta, even though he's not mentioned in the title by name. A man who wanted to feel everything historically would resemble some one forced to refrain from sleeping or an animal expected to live only from ruminating and ever repeated ruminating. All acting requires forgetting, as not only light, but also darkness is required for life by all organisms. And so there is the idea that history can be harmful to life, which is the first major premise that nicha has advanced in this work. But without forgetting, it is quite impossible to live at all.
