The Evolution of Agency

The Bogart effect, named after the American Herpetologist Charles Bogart. Lizards in many different geographic localities living under many different prevailing thermal regimes had body temperatures that varied little. Island lizards do so much more thermal regulation their physiology is shielded from selection. The rate of heat tolerance evolution is about three and a half times slower on islands than on the mainland.
