The Amalekites and the Amalekite Battle in Canaan

The Israelites come into the land and have a battle with the Amalekites. This may be more complicated than what we've seen before, reading Israel's later history back into an earlier time. I don't think it's just sort of a made up thing necessarily. But there may be something more to it than what I'm seeing.
