Gordan: I was a clinton appointee to the national security agency. It had some budget problems, it had some cultural problems and so on. And then you had this global tele communications revolution too. We were on the downslope. But i decided there was no course action i could set out on that would be more dangerous to the future of the agency than continuing to sit there and do nothing. So we starte to make some dramatic changes. The president understood the dangers, and then he took additional steps to try to mitigate the dangers by this special relationship that he tried to develop with prime minister molety. That's actully why i started the book with that chapter.
