Scott Davis: I've been at American University now for 14 years, and I spent 10 years as the provost. My interest in student life in the culture of higher education is something that has inspired me throughout my life. He says there's a "substantial mismatch" between operation functions and policies and procedures to students' lives. The new book explores what he calls 'administratively adrift,' an area where things can go wrong.
