There are lots of potential reasons why females make colors better than males. A popular theory is that back in our sort of hunter gathering days, it was largely the women who would do the gathering and the men did the hunting. But there is another interesting thing, which is that a small but reasonable proportion of women have a fourth color cone that's very, very close to the red cone. And so that also plays in as well,. It may possibly be related to the hunter-gatherer kind of explanation, but it's a mechanistic explanation.
