The Role of Zinc in Proteins

Zinc is present in many enzymes where it allows the enzyme to have its full or normal activity, and enzymes catalyze reactions. It's roughly analogous to the zinc finger in the sense that zinc is taking far away amino acids within a protein and helping to bind them together so that that protein can be bent into a three-dimensional shape. Zinc is necessary for the catalytic function of all the enzymes that make RNA. So pretty much everything in the body requires zinc,. but let's get granular.
