The Master Slave Dialectic

The master slave dialectic basically says that the master is not ever free, because heis totally dependent on the slave. To own your life is not to be independent, but to be able to acknowledge your dependence. Acting on behalf of the one you love is not an alien purpose, but the expression of a commitment in which you can recognize yourself. When you love some one, a friend, as a parent, is a life partner, your dependence on the other belongs to the life you affirm as your own.
