Gerald herd formed his own spiritual movement that was really built on the basis of theosophy. Famous hollywood people like gradigarbo, charley chaplin and these other famous, even bertrand russell and others would go on picnics and retreats. They were definitely sects. I wouldn't call it like mainstream hindu or mainstream buddhistm water. But this was sort of the free, willing hollywood environment in those early days.
