The sun works using fusion, which can takes two light elements together and builds a heavier element that releases energy. The sun is a factory for taking lower number elements, elements with fewer protons in the nucleus, and producing heavier things. It's almost like things that are lighter than iron one of fused together, or at least it's like a positive reaction. But anything heavier than iron doesn't really want to get together.
