CHAPTER

The Hard Problem of Consciousness

The hard problem of consciousness is how can you know what it's like to be something from the inside if you can't actually measure that feature? And there's also a parallel problem which is the hard problem of matter which is that matter itself is not defined in the absence of interactions because we always observe an electron under interaction with another object. So they all seem to talk about sort of different layers of what information is and how we talk about it from very different perspectives. But the one I'm particularly interested in because I think it's really important for understanding the nature of life is what is information, how does it emerge and why does it look like it seems to determine features of the future.
