My tug aircraft was to be piloted by wing commander, now group captain mac namara. Mac namara and i had a lot in common, not only our interest i airborn matters, but our love of sailing. Major general crawford, then director of air at the war office, came down to our airfield at harwell to give us his blessing. He flew in mac namara's aircraft, just to see, as he so typically put it, that old richard gets there all right.
