The Emergence of the New Proletariat

By 1977 when the Combahee River Collective makes its statement which formed in 1974, this is a collection of radical black feminists who are almost all lesbians. Crenshaw would have been aware of them for sure and adapted much of what she thought from them. The goal was to create an emerging new working class or new proletariat that's rooted in identity politics. This includes the conflation of culture and identity. So now if you're black there's black culture, if you're Mexican there's, well there is actually Mexican culture because Mexico is its own nation but if you're Hispanic there's like Latino culture.
