Teachers always started off by wanting to change the least empowered people in the scene. This bullying scene was persistently conceptualized by the teachers as something that happened between the kid getting bullied and the kid who was doing the bullying. The teacher, acting the part of the teacher, walked over to the latina students and started speaking spanish to the students. Completely changed the scene. It acted against the school's english only policy, against the idea that monoculturalism was the answer to everything. And the letines walked on to class feeling like they had been recognized.
