Even before language evolved, critters were able to perceive their environment. And so what I want to and then communication between organisms of a similar sort, deploys or takes advantage of prior perceptual networks. We often perceive it in ways that are more or less messy or fraud or difficult but they're all optical illusions as far as we can reconstruct them.
