The German Role in Creating the Inner Line of the Heartland
Hitler came into contact with the Munich-based Haushorfe through his National Socialist colleague and future deputy, Uldolf Hess. He was impressed by the connection made by Mckinder between a geographical reality and the political consequences that might flow from it. The idea of a massive continental block independent of Anglo-Saxon economic and naval power appealed to him. In 1924 he founded the journal Sijtrift Fugeil Politik which played a central part in creating geopolitics as a form of what he called applied political geography.
