Why We Shouldn't Build Transformative AI
The risk of catastrophe from AI is high enough to warrant many more people pursuing careers to try to prevent such an outcome. Here we'll cover the strongest reasons in our opinion to think this problem isn't particularly pressing. In the next section we'll cover some common objections that in our opinion hold up less well and explain why. We might have a lot of time to work on this problem.AI might improve gradually over time. We might need to solve alignment anyway to make AI useful. The problem could be extremely difficult to solve. We could be wrong that strategic AI systems are likely to seek power.
