The ischemia trial published in NEGEM in 2020 is a randomized control trial that compared early invasive revascularization with cabbage or PCI to standard medical therapy. The decision to pursue cabbage must weigh the potential benefit against perioperative risk and is made by a heart team involving cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, and noninvasive cardiologists. There was a significant reduction in angina symptoms in the early invasive group, but no difference in all cause or cardiac specific mortality at five years between the two arms.
