The Advantages of a Water Medape
Roland Vaughan developed a system of water meadows in the Golden Valley. The dyke stretches from Peter Church through to Turnerstone, about three and a half kilometres. He used it to secure a flow of water that he could irrigate on one hand and drain the surplus water runoff. It was very much a ice-doll country in the 16th century - with 3,000 sheep and 600 cattle.
