Larkin and Lacey started the Phoenix New Times as a student anti-war paper back in the early 70s. They went on to have papers in 17 or 18 different cities, these all weekly newspapers. These papers were very much not afraid of calling out people in power. And they made a lot of powerful enemies over the decades that they were publishing.
