The Peloponnesian Plan for Chios
The Corinthians refused to accompany their five ships to Chios until after the Ismian Games had been completed later that summer. Not surprisingly, the resulting delay gave the Athenians time to discover the plot. They sent one of their generals, Aristocratis, to Chios where he accused the Keyans of planning a rebellion. When they denied his accusation, he demanded that they prove their good faith as allies by turning over seven of their ships with their crews intact.
