Corbet had been in paris for roughly a decade, trying to make a name for himself. Two of corbet's most famous paintings were inspired by this visit home. The first was titled le casseur de pierre, or the stone breakers as its title suggests. Was eventually recognized as raising questions about france's socio economic structure.
