In 1950, the percentage of people in Japan that were over 65 years old was 4.9%. In 2014, it had quadrupled and was at 26% of their population. China just recently introduced a three child policy. They're kind of panicking the other way now, saying we need more people to have kids so that we can sustain ourselves.
