After those first three transplants, 13 more happened. 16 gravely ill people received a new, healthy kidney due to Matt's original act. Thus began the concept of the pay-it-forward chain of transplantation. I think that all of us have altruism inside of us. And if only we can hear of the opportunity to do something meaningful enough that we want to engage in that, then we're more likely to engage in acts of altruism.
