Castle Main was originally named Forest Creek and as the population grew, it became known as Mount Alexander. In 1854, Chief Goldfields Commissioner, Captain W Wright, renamed the settlement Castle Main in honor of his Irish uncle, Viscount Castle Main. There's a big sort of Chinese influx here, which we've sort of seen throughout all of these goldfields towns. About 33,000 Chinese miners estimated to have come into Victoria during that period.
