The Battle of Rossith
The warspite was hit by at least 13 heavy shells and several 6 inch shells while executing the turn. This resulted in the ship taking two full circles before it could be corrected. Evan Thomas ordered the ship to proceed directly back to port rather than continuing on with the chase of the German fleet. When the ship arrived at Rossith for repairs, the reception that it received was somewhat confusing for the crew. The story would be told that warspite had purposefully distracted the Germans to save a smaller ship but this was not true.
