The Wall Street Journal's Julie Salomon concurred with other critics at the film's questionable attitude towards queerness. The vast majority of reviews seemed to implicitly or otherwise concur that Catherine's sexuality made her an antisocial character. This is the extent to which homophobia was ingrained in the dominant culture. At best, a bisexual woman was othered. And this movie, that unquestionably glamorized a woman with an omnivorous sexual appetite, was seen as anti-woman.
